Setting culture alight (01.06.2010)
Xwama Cultural Village Restaurant and Curio Shop, Windhoek

FACT FILE

In the heart of Katutura – Windhoek’s famous township where the people originally didn’t want to live – is a small cultural jewel that attracts curious locals and tourists alike. Xwama Cultural Village with its restaurant and curio shop is located on the corner of Independence Avenue and Omongo Street in the Wanaheda area of Katutura. It is the brainchild of two Namibians, Twapewa Mudjanima and her husband, Erastus Kadhikwa, who were both born with a large dose of ambition and a serious love of traditional culture.

The restaurant and curio shop are open for lunch and dinner every day.

Village Café, Swakopmund (01.02.2010)
Serious about coffee

“Life is much too important to be taken seriously."
Oscar Wilde

When in Swakopmund and looking for an alternative spot where you won’t be given any strange looks, can hide away in a hermit’s corner, share some good news with a loved one, or cry over spilt milk (or coffee), the Village Café is perfect. Here feelings can be shared and life won’t be taken too seriously.

Food in Namibia’s lodges (01.09.2009)
Imaginative, fresh and delicious

What are we going to eat? Aside from “Where are we going to stay?” this is one of the oft-asked questions by travellers. Namibia’s city restaurants are known for their fresh seafood, game dishes, seasonal specialities such as asparagus and truffles, and traditional German dishes. There are often extensive menus and there is even some pasta here and there.

Ombo Spezialitäten-Restaurant (01.08.2009)
Delicious and healthy ostrich specialities

According to Kochforum, an Internet site, Ombo (which is ostrich in the Owambo language) is one of very few restaurants internationally that specialise in dishes using various parts of the ostrich and not only steaks. With this information in mind we made a note on our travel itinerary to have a meal at the restaurant when in Swakopmund.
